Washington Street - Newburgh

This combination of new mixed-use apartment buildings and re-use of an existing school is located within the Newburgh East End Historic District. With Mapos Design and Architecture Studio as the design architects, Fifth Street Architecture is the executive architect carrying out the construction drawings and administration. The site is a full block, located on the corners of Washington and William Streets, that consists of a demolished grade school, now a parking lot, and a former elementary school designed by Perkins & Will Architects in the late 1950’s. The project consists of two new mixed-use apartment buildings with 6,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and 50 apartments on the upper floors. The two-story school classrooms will be developed into 20 apartments, some with outdoor space, while the former 7,500 square foot multi-purpose gym/cafeteria will become a brewery and open to the public.
